Synopsis: After exposure to terrorist violence, Peter becomes a son to Byrne, who turns into the father figure the boy needs during a terrible time of loss. However, such a connection creates a level of manipulation, with “The Painter” introducing Peter as a fully formed assassin, wearing earplugs to cool his hearing, waiting to reconnect with Byrne in Seattle, and the senior official is trying to charm his top man with his love of disguises. It’s a reunion with intent, with Peter sent on a new mission, and the writing establishes his commitment to the cause, as Elena, who also works for the C.I.A., is ready to bring their baby into the world. Any picture that opens with the shooting of a pregnant woman is walking on thin ice tonally, but Buccellato doesn’t get vicious with the endeavor, using the horrifying moment to launch a cat’s cradle of characters, with a lengthy time jump putting Sophia into play, and Peter finds it impossible to believe he’s her father.
