Synopsis: Only his veterinary daughter Denise and the local authorities and residents he sees once a week at a city council meeting are in frequent communication with Milton. Although the film doesn’t address that aspect of Milton’s life, we can presume that he is widowed. Milton also has an adult son who is alienated from him and with whom he hasn’t communicated in a while. As portrayed by Kingsley, who has given careful consideration to the accent, demeanour, and gestures of the role as well as having a hairpiece and glasses that give him the appearance of being Noam Chomsky’s long-lost brother, Milton is the kind of elderly man you might frequently see at a nearby post office or supermarket but not really understand.
