Synopsis: Hal (Eddie Marsan) is a married guy from a practical household who collects vintage video games. He obtained a copy of “CURS>R,” an interactive fiction computer game. Hal launches the game and begins playing, expecting nothing more than a traditional text-based adventure game from the 1980s. However, when the items around him begin to interact with the game, he understands it is something else and hurts his family as a result. Kayla (Iola Evans) is a college student who works as a cleaner to pay for her studies for three months later. She teaches new and old technologies to her computer-geek pal, Isaac (Asa Butterfield), who in turn helps her understand the coding so she may pass her classes. Kayla’s mother, Thea (Angela Griffin), developed a heroin addiction following the murder of her son Ricky (Kayleen Aires Fonseca), and experienced psychological and sexual abuse from her hired collector, Lance (Ryan Gage). He is supplied with medications. In return for not being evicted from her flat, he pushes her into prostitution. On his way to see Isaac after work one day, he discovered a CURS>R game in his flat, as well as a phone number giving Kayla a,000 125,000 prize. When she dials the line, she hears a recorded voice from Terror Director Robert Englund, instructing her to complete the game and input the numerical code at the end to win money.
