Synopsis: Meet cutes are tough, and “Anyone But You” has a strange one. Bea needs a bathroom, reaching emergency status, and she picks a coffee shop to do her business, but they won’t permit use of the facilities without a purchase, and the customer line is long. Ben steps up, ordering for his “wife,” allowing Bea to relieve herself. Because this is a movie, Bea is blasted by the sink, soaking her pants with water, causing her to panic as she uses a hand dryer to remove evidence of wetness. It’s a terrible scene, as hackneyed as it gets for a comedic situation, but the moment also identifies the main problem with the writing, as everything could be solved with a simple explanation. Tedious slapstick is offered instead, with Bea and Ben soon connecting, enjoying grotesquely buttered grilled cheese sandwiches before having sex, while a simple misunderstanding the next morning quickly undoes all their lustful vibes.
