Synopsis: In the most intimate scene from “Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me,” the singer-actor reads passages from her journal that are riddled with self-doubt and worry. These passages include statements like “I have to stop living like this” and “I want to know how to breathe again.” It is undoubtedly helpful for her to have spoken up about her bipolar disease, but the six-year time span of this personal Apple TV+ presentation makes it difficult to turn its findings into a documentary. Alek Keshishian, whose previous work includes “Madonna: Truth or Dare” and Gomez’s 2015 music video “Hands to Myself,” directed the movie. It is evident that he had extensive access to the subject, starting with her 2016 tour preparations during rehearsals at the Los Angeles Sports Arena before she cut the performance schedule short due to anxiety and panic attacks. From there, “My Mind & Me” pretty much goes in every direction, following her on a trip to Kenya, accompanying her as she answers questions from paparazzi, going with her as she visits people from her old neighborhood, and reflecting on her annoyances with the press while on a media tour.
