Synopsis: Theoretically, a highly expensive multi-location movie could be made from Dahl’s real-life story, which features international action. In this version, Anderson limits the action to a series of intricate sets that made me think of the amazing films by the Czech filmmaker Karel Zeman, which starred live-action performers against animated backgrounds. Each performer addresses the camera directly while speaking as characters and narrators. Additionally, they speak swiftly and without much apparent inflection. Almost all of the words in Anderson’s adaptation of Dahl real short story—which is inventive but rarely aimed at children—are his own. He doesn’t even attempt because he knows he can’t match Dahl verbiage dry humour. In reference to the obscenely wealthy main character Dahl writes, Men like Henry Sugar are to be found drifting like seaweed all over the world.
