Synopsis: The plot follows Nica Dove, who grew up in an orphanage the children ominously called the “grave.” All she hoped for was adoption by a caring family. When that day arrives, she is adopted along with Lionel, the sole orphan she didn’t get along with. Some children called Lionel the “tearsmith,” a legend best left unsaid, as the film reveals his story. Nica finds Lionel a mysterious bad boy, peculiar since they were raised together, sharing all. A forbidden romance brews between them, now siblings yet attracted. Add a rival, troubled friends, and a disjointed climax seemingly from another film, and you have “The Tearsmith.” The cast delivers their one-dimensional roles as the script dictates. The climax barely relates to Nica and Lionel’s romance, shifting focus to the orphanage’s abusive environment that shaped them.
