Synopsis: Jonathan is a writing teacher at a Tennessee high school, and his top student is Cairo. A bored teen from a privileged family, Cairo is highly intelligent but doesn’t have much going on in her life, maintaining a relationship with Winnie, her more outwardly sexualized friend. Jonathan senses something special in Cairo and wants to help her achieve great academic success, but he’s also taken by her mature ways, sensing these feelings are returned by his student, who’s one of the few to read his only book. Offering Cairo a jump on a mid-term assignment to write a story in the style of an established author, Jonathan also gets close to the teen during this time, sharing experiences and conversation, which sparks something between them. Without thinking of any trouble coming his way, Jonathan is alarmed when he receives Cairo’s paper, where she takes influence from Henry Miller to the extreme with a tale about a sexual experience shared between a student and her teacher.
