Synopsis: Stuart Long (Mark Wahlberg) is an amateur boxer from Helena, Montana, who has a bad tongue and a strained relationship with her mother and drunken father. Her brother Stephen died when he was six years old, causing a schism in the family and his parents turning anti-religious. He relocates to Southern California to pursue a career as an actor, and takes a job at a grocery shop, claiming that everyone buys groceries and that it will be easier to break into the entertainment world if he works in a grocery store. He was arrested for DUI after attempting to steal his father’s truck in order to attend an audition. While working at the store, he meets Carmen (Teresa Ruiz), whom he meets in a nearby Catholic parish. She works as a volunteer Sunday school teacher there. Carmen initially objects to her promotion, but Stu pushes. She informs him that she would not even consider dating him until he has been baptized. Stu agrees and begins the RCIA process at the church. A fellow Parisian named Ham (Aaron Moten) befriends him, while another named Jacob despises him (Cody Fern). They’re both going to seminary. Stu is christened in the parish. He and Carmen begin dating, and he subsequently meets his parents.
