Synopsis: America is embroiled in civil war, with the President offering support to government forces battling insurgents across the fractured nation. Photojournalist Lee and her partner Joel decide to embark on a perilous journey to Washington D.C. to interview the President, believing his time in office may be short. They are joined by Sammy, an elderly veteran and Lee’s mentor, as well as Jessie, an aspiring young photographer who idolizes Lee and hopes to learn from her. Driving a truck hundreds of miles into territory held by the secessionist Loyalist States, the group encounters the unsettling surreality of conflict in their transformed homeland. For the inexperienced Jessie, the horrors Lee has learned to suppress are almost too much to bear. As they get closer to the President, violent threats against the team escalate, testing their resolve to document this pivotal moment in history. “Civil War” provides an intimate look at the madness of war through this dangerous mission, clearly taking inspiration from “Apocalypse Now,” though without exploring the larger political disputes behind the conflict or prospects for resolution.
