Synopsis: A dog dies in Peter Flinth’s “Against The Ice,” a tight rescue drama based on the actual narrative of two Danish explorers sentenced for a 1909 voyage to Greenland’s northern tip. They all do, in fact, not just Bjrn, a lovely sled puppy who perishes at the bottom of an Arctic fissure when fresh-faced engineer Iver Iversen (Joe Cole) makes a mistake. Later, the situation worsens to the point when Iver Iversen begins slaughtering the weakest dogs and feeding their flesh to the strong ones, who will soon devour themselves. These heinous incidents take place within the first 100 days of a voyage that will bore 700 others, as the naive Iver and his crucial leader, Captain Ejnar Mikkelsen, finally acquire boils in each other’s throats. Fighting with faraway ladies who visit their sexual fantasies in the middle of the night. However, the characteristics of that technique are difficult to grasp because “Against The Ice” does not experience the agony of being confined in a frozen hell for three years while it travels through the ice. Flinth’s campaign is less effective in this regard than Iver and Ejnar Mikkelsen’s (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). Capt. Ejner, who has already strained his crew’s patience, appears to be the only one who is prepared for the five-month trek to Cairn and back.
